There are two great local Conejo Valley libraries for kids and adults alike. The Grant R. Brimhall Library is at 1401 E. Janss Road in Thousand Oaks (805.449.2660) and the local Newbury Park Branch is at 2331 Borchard Road (805.498.2139). • Mon-Thurs: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• Fri: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Sat: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Sun: Noon to 5 p.m.

Newbury Park Branch Library (new hours starting January 3, 2023):

• Mon-Thurs: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• Fri: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Sat: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Sun: Closed

Both libraries are closed on major holidays

If you're looking for a place to cool off and relax during the summer months, you can't beat the Thousand Oaks Library. Nice and cool in there and plenty of spaces to grab a book and relax. Take advantage of it!

There’s also a virtual library available 24/7 at www.tolibrary.org/research. Free services are numerous:

• eBooks and more: Flipster (magazines), Freegal Music, Kanopy (free films, documentaries and TV shows), OverDrive/Libby (eBooks, Audiobooks), PressReader and more.

Other items of note:

• The Thousand Oaks Library is not part of the Ventura County Library System (it was part of the system prior to November 1982) and thus your library card can only be used for books at these two libraries.

• The Grant Brimhall Library is 84,000 sq ft and the Newbury Park Branch is 17,000 sq ft.

Ventura County Library System

The Ventura County Library System includes 12 community branch libraries and a museum library.

The system offers books, magazines, book and music CDs, eBooks, audio books, streamable music, DVDs and more. A list of locations in the system is below. Visit the library website at www.vencolibrary.org for an online catalog and more information.

Your library card also gives you access to newspapers, language instruction, auto repair, genealogy resources and career tools. All of that, and there’s even more: find early literacy resources, encyclopedias, test preparation and biography, literature, science, and history databases.

The VC Library's online eLibrary is available 24/7 at www.vencolibrary.org/elibrary. Here is a sampling of apps available in the eLibrary:

• Hoopla - streaming of movies, TV shows and albums

• For eBook downloads, they offer CloudLibrary (popular fiction/nonfiction eAudiobooks), BookFLIX (for beginning readers with read-aloud feature), EBSCOhost eBooks (adult nonfiction) and others.

To check out books at the libraries and obtain materials online, you'll need to obtain a library card at any of the libraries in the Ventura County Library system. The initial card is free.

Although the VC Library System does not prefer this, you can check out books from one library in the system and return them to another one. 

The following libraries in Ventura County and nearby areas are run by municipalities and thus are not part of the Ventura County Library System. You can check out books at these other libraries but will need separate library cards at them.

Camarillo Public Library

The Camarillo Public Library is located at 4101 Las Posas Road. This is a beautiful, nearly 66,000 sq ft state-of-the-art facility that opened in March 2007.

The library is a two-story building with a bookstore, the Giant Steps Cafe in the front courtyard (805.484.0700) adult literacy facility, community room (capacity of 130 to 200), conference room, technology lab and study rooms.

The library's collection is over 270,000 items, including books, DVDs, music CDs, and audio books on CD and MP3. Your library card gives you access to the Camarillo Digital Library with hundreds of eBooks and Audio Books available on the library's website. The eBooks can be read in numerous formats, including computers, iPhones, iPads, Android devices, etc. The library contains the Russell Fischer Business Collection and the Ventura County Genealogical Society collection

The kids section is quite large, with a cool pirate-themed kids area.

The library is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm (as of January 2022).

The Camarillo Library is an independently run city library that is not part of the Ventura County Library System. However, you can use your Camarillo Public Library card to borrow titles from the Moorpark City Library as well as other partner libraries.

Moorpark City Library

The Moorpark City Library is an independently run city library located at 699 Moorpark Avenue. It is open 7 days per week (closed major holidays).

Anyone in the State of California can obtain a library card for no charge. The Moorpark City Library is not part of the Ventura County Library System, so you will need a separate library card to check out books at other local libraries.

Agoura Hills Library

The Agoura Hills Library first opened on October 27, 2001 in its 17,772 square foot facility at 29901 Ladyface Court. The library is part of the Agoura City Hall Civic Center and well as the County of Los Angeles Public Library System (and thus your library card is can be used at dozens of L.A. County libraries).

The library is located off the Kanan Road exit or Reyes Adobe Road exit from U.S. 101 Freeway on Agoura Road and Ladyface Court. The facility has a copy center, computer center, 2 conference rooms, and a Friends of the Library bookstore & browsing area.

There’s also a household battery recycling site at the library.

Westlake Village Library

The Westlake Village Library is located at 31220 Oak Crest Drive and is open weekdays. The library is part of the County of Los Angeles Public Library system.

The 11,500 sq ft library is located within the Westlake Village City Hall complex and features a uniquely designed children's area, study rooms; copy room; study carrels; lounge chairs; a circulation desk with four check-out terminals; seven public access Internet computers; eight online library catalogs and more. WiFi too; you need a library card and password.

Online services include eBooks, audiobooks, music, movies and TV, magazines, comics, eLearning programs, homework tutoring and more.

Simi Valley Public Library

The Simi Valley Public Library is located at 2969 Tapo Canyon Road. Previously part of the Ventura County Library System, the library became a municipal public library on July 1, 2013.

The library is open 7 days a week, 10am to 8pm Monday through Thursday, 1pm to 5pm on Friday and Sunday and 10am to 5pm on Saturday.

In addition to books and publications, the library has a meeting room, hosts special free events and programs for the community and allows for eBook downloads on its website.

Oxnard Public Library Locations

In 1907, the Oxnard Public Library opened its doors on what is now the corner of C and Fourth Streets in a building funded by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation.  In 1909, the library opened deposit stations, which later became branches, in the areas of Port Hueneme, Moorpark, Saticoy, Camarillo, Somis, and Santa Susana. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors dissolved this arrangement in 1915 with the establishment of the Ventura County Library System which provided service to the aforementioned cities. The City of Oxnard leaders at that time decided to maintain the Oxnard Public Library as a city library, separate from the County Library System.
