Moorpark College Music Program Presents "Voices From The Red Carpet" on December 1st

Join the Moorpark College Music Program for the December 1st performances of VOICES FROM THE RED CARPET.  Moorpark College’s Concert Choir and Vocal Ensemble present their semester’s explorations of vocal music from your favorite film, television, and other media works.  The concerts are directed by David Castillo, a veteran of the Hollywood session singer world.

Concerts will take place at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Moorpark College Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors.

Moorpark College Theatre Arts Presents The Curious Savage. In this comedy, Mrs. Savage has just inherited a boatload of money. Her greedy stepchildren have already spent every last coin of it in their heads. When Mrs. Savage's intent for the money doesn't line up with her stepchildren's, they throw her into a sanatorium hoping to "bring her to her senses." Instead of a punishment, however, Mrs. Savage finds respite in the residents at The Cloisters, each one in their turn reminding Mrs. Savage that kindness and affection are still possibilities in a materialistic world and that mental health is health.

Performances October 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 & 21 at 8:00 PM and October 15 & 22 at 2:00 PM.

The musical, loosely based on the 2000 film of the same name written by Jessica Bendinger, focuses on the competitive world of cheerleading and over-the-top team rivalries.

Moorpark College Theatre Arts Presents "Cabaret" July 20th thru August 6th

Set in a nightclub in Berlin at the end of the 1920’s, “Cabaret” explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin's natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. The story revolves around Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, who is immediately taken with English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally's boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. This powerful and darkly comic American musical explores themes of love, political intrigue and the consequences of intolerance. Musical numbers include "Willkommen," "Cabaret," "Don't Tell Mama" and "Two Ladies."

All performances will be held in the intimate Studio Theater in the Moorpark College Performing Arts Center so seating will be limited.

Star Gazing Event at Moorpark College Observatory on Saturday, June 10th

Summer Triangle and Milky Way Sky Tour

Moorpark College and the Ventura County Astronomical Society will host a guided tour of the summer sky at the Moorpark College Observatory, 7075 Campus Road, on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 8:00 pm. Join them for an exploration of our own galaxy, the Milky Way!

At 9 pm, the sky darkens, and the telescope viewing begins!

You are encouraged to bring your own binoculars or telescope. If the sky is cloudy, a PowerPoint presentation will still be shown.

This is a free event for students, staff and the community. Not recommended for children under 6 years old. RSVP at bit.ly/SUMMERTRIANGLE.

Seating is limited. You are welcome to bring your own lawn or folding chairs.

STAR, PLANET & CONSTELLATIONS SKY TOUR

This is a free event to students, staff and the community, recommended for 6 years old or older. We will have a guided tour of the summer sky at the observatory amphitheater at 8:30 PM! Become familiar with the galaxies, star clusters and nebulae in the May sky. At 9 PM, the sky darkens and the telescope viewing begins! If you have binoculars, that will enhance your views too. Weather conditions (thick clouds, rain, high wind) can cancel the program.

Moorpark College and Ventura County Astronomical Society Present "Total Solar Eclipse" Presentation on Friday, March 17th

Moorpark College and the Ventura County Astronomical Society present a stargazers event, “Total Solar Eclipse,” on Friday, March 17th at 7:30 p.m.

On April 8, 2024, the moon’s shadow will sweep across Mexico and the United States, bringing the most spectacular nature’s event close to us. Where will you be in the 4+ minutes of totality? Professor Hal Jandorf will present an exciting illustrated lecture about past total solar eclipses and how to plan, observe and photograph this coming one. He has observed and photographed eight total solar eclipses around the world.
