Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers in Westlake Village Has Closed Its Doors

freddys2.jpg

Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers in Westlake Village has closed its doors. They opened on Hampshire Road next to the old vacant Kmart building in the fall of 2013. Prior to that it was a Burger King. Sorry to see them go. They had a pretty nice run at a location that would not rank as one of the better locations in the Conejo Valley.

The Dudes' Brewing Company Tasting Room Thousand Oaks Has Closed Its Kegs

TheDudes3.2.20.jpg

No more Dudes at Janss Marketplace. The Dudes' Brewing Co. Tasting Room that originally opened in July 2016 has closed its kegs and its doors. I enjoyed The Dudes’ from time to time. Sorry to see them leave.

According to The Dudes’ Brewing Company Management Team:

After another year of remarkable growth, the national award-winning THE DUDES’® BREWING COMPANY has announced the expansion of two groundbreaking 13,000+ square foot “Beervana” super locations in Hollywood and Anaheim!

In an effort to best streamline the company’s efforts moving forward, The Dudes’® will be closing two of their existing locations in Huntington Beach and Thousand Oaks effective immediately.

“We greatly enjoyed our last three years in both Huntington Beach and Thousand Oaks and are so very proud of what we’ve done and of our incredible and loyal fans and staff,” said The Dudes’® owner Toby Humes. “At this time however, we felt it important to refocus the direction of the company and move from the suburban environments to more urban environments.”

The existing The Dudes’® Brewing Company locations in Santa Monica, Santa Clarita and Torrance will remain in operation. Resources from the closing locations will be reallocated to the new restaurants while both locations are currently searching externally to fill the many needed positions in both Hollywood as well as Anaheim.

Interested parties are encouraged to view the latest openings listed on The Dudes’® website: https://thedudesbrew.com/work-for-us

“We are still very much continuing to grow as a company. Concentrating our focus and energies to our bigger restaurant locations is the next step in our growth,” said VP of Marketing Sean Fanton. “ Our amazing new 13,000 square foot Hollywood location is weeks away from opening with Anaheim scheduled to launch Quarter 2 of this year.”

The new Hollywood location is conveniently located amidst the perennially foot-trafficked Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard at Cherokee Ave and will feature the only brewery tap room in Hollywood. Equipped with 90 taps of cold, freshly-brewed beer, the restaurant is scheduled to officially open in mid-March with Anaheim’s unveiling in the second quarter of 2020.

“People from all over the world flock to Hollywood,” Fanton continued. “In terms of convenience and foot traffic, our newest location on Hollywood Boulevard is second to none.”

Featuring a rustic industrial decor, a state of the art scratch kitchen and three bars - each with 30 flowing taps - the Hollywood location will serve as a destination for beer lovers everywhere as it will feature the only outdoor deck on Hollywood Boulevard. The new location will also offer a professionally curated wine selection.

The Hollywood and Anaheim locations will mark the newest restaurants for the family-owned and operated The Dudes’® Brewing Company. Other locations include Santa Monica, Santa Clarita and their flagship location in Torrance. In 2019, The Dudes won two category awards at the Great American Beer Festival®, taking home medals for their Los Dudes Cerveza Lager Mexicana and Grandma’s Pecan Brown. The newest location will feature the award winners as well as other customer favorites like their CalifornIPA®, JuiceBox Series®: Peach Sour and Double Trunk® DIPA.

The aforementioned award-winners can be found on tap at all The Dudes’® Brewing locations and also available for take-home enjoyment in canned four-packs. If you are in California, Reno or Las Vegas you can get these beers delivered straight to your doorstep via our online store. Check out www.thedudesbrew.com for additional details on ordering as well as information on applying for positions in either Hollywood or Anaheim.

Meanwhile, expect Pedals & Pints Brewing Company at The Oaks Mall to be opening real soon. The recently started their on-site brewing processes.

Umami Burger at The Lakes at Thousand Oaks Served Its Last Savory Burger Last Night

The Lakes at Thousand Oaks wasted no time removing most traces of Umami Burger day after closing.

As reported via Instagram yesterday afternoon, Umami Burger at The Lakes at Thousand Oaks closed its doors at the close of business last night, Saturday, January 4, 2020. They originally opened here on May 3, 2012 for a nearly eight year run.

I for one was a fan of Umami Burger but the jury seems a bit mixed on this local eatery. Yes, the burgers were a bit on the pricey side for fans of In N Out Burger, The Habit Burger and Five Guys (all of which I also enjoy) but pricing aside, I always enjoyed them. I also tried my very first Impossible Burger here at Umami Burger back in June 2017.

I visited Umami Burger yesterday and enjoyed my last burger at the bar around 2pm. There was one family at a table inside and another group outside. Kind of a lonely farewell. So long, Umami Burger, and best of luck to your entire staff in securing new jobs.

My final Umami burger. Looked better in person.

Natas Pastries on Thousand Oaks Boulevard has closed its doors. This Portuguese bakery and eatery opened in September 2017. The owner will be focusing energy on her original Sherman Oaks location, which has been in operation for 14 years.

The Thousand Oaks location opened in July 2017 at 2388 Thousand Oaks Boulevard.

Cafe Firenze in Moorpark Announced It Will Be Closing Its Doors Today

After the shock of hearing that both Brendan’s Irish Pub and Restaurant locations closed their doors today, it was another surprise to hear this afternoon that Cafe Firernze in Moorpark is also closing its doors…TODAY.

Management indicated its lease had ended after 11 years in operation and they were unable to reach an agreement on new lease terms.

Let’s hope for some better news as we make our way into the new year.

Brendan's Irish Pub and Restaurant Has Closed Its Camarillo and Newbury Park Locations

BrendansClosed2010.jpg

Very sad to report that today, Brendan’s Irish Pub and Restaurant announced that it has closed both its original Camarillo location and its second location in Newbury Park, next to the Palm Garden Hotel.

The Agoura Hills location closed earlier in 2019.

Brendan’s Camarillo originally opened on January 15, 2011. I was there when they were unloading items shipped in directly from Ireland to decorate the place. They’ve had a good nine year run there, but still sad to seem them go.

Brendan’s Newbury Park opened on October 8, 2012.

No word on what’s next for these locations. The Newbury Park location is physically connected to the Palm Garden Hotel and Spa, so it would seem there would be a desire for a new operator there soon. Stay tuned.

Former Brendan’s Newbury Park taken on January 2nd around 11:30am.
