Custom Melt Opened in Moorpark in May

In the space previous occupied by Chronic Tacos at 6593 Collins Drive, Suite D in Moorpark (near Moorpark College, making this a nice destination for those visiting the Moorpark College Teaching Zoo), a new eatery called Custom Melt opened in late May 2012.

I like it from the looks of their website as they have 10 different tasty sounding melts on their menu, including a crispy mac and cheese melt, 4 Cheese, Cuban Reuben, Green-Go, Italian Melt, Meat Ball, Smokey Blue, Tuna Twist, Veggie and PB&J. Other interesting sounding offerings includes chili cheese fries, Herbs & Garlic Yucca Fries, Sweet Jalapeño Potato Puffs and other side dishes. They also serve draft beer as well as wine.

Bauducco's Westlake Village Indicates It Is Moving to a New Location

Update 2/10/14: No updates. I suppose this will be the last "no update" update I make. :)

Update 1/14/13: There is a "for lease" sign up at the Thousand Oaks Blvd location mentioned below, no website updates and the phone number has been disconnected. This will be our final Bauducco's update unless someone contacts us with new info!

Update 9/26/12: No updates, no news, other than the phone number listed below is no longer in service. Hmm.

Since 1970, Bauducco's Italian Restaurant, Market and Deli has been a Westlake Village fixture. However, it closed its doors at 2839 Agoura Road back in early March and indicated in its phone message that it would be relocating elsewhere in the city.

Now the message gives a specific location at 3825 Thousand Oaks Boulevard, Unit A, Westlake Village, in the space adjacent to GNC and a few doors down from Jersey Mike's, Thousand Oaks Fish & Chips, Hunan Restaurant and Rite Aid. It has been over over 4 months since Bauducco's closed...stay tuned to see if indeed they re-open at this location.

New home for Bauducco's? That's what they say! We shall see.

Bauducco's phone was 805.495.4623 and their website is no longer functional.

Ventura County Sheriff Removes Over 3,800 Marijuana Plants in Newbury Park

Earlier this month, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Narcotic Unit concluded an investigation into an illegal marijuana cultivation operating in the Hill Canyon area of Thousand Oaks. This area is located in the 1500 block of Rancho Conejo Boulevard in Thousand Oaks near a gated community.

A number of investigators descended into the area where they discovered a large marijuana garden with over 3,800 plants in various stages of growth. The area was searched for suspects, but none were found. Investigators spent several hours eradicating the plants and collecting evidence.

Anyone with information on the suspect(s) involved in the cultivation can provided the information by calling the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department or Crime Stoppers.

Ventura County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 reward for information, which leads to the arrest and criminal complaint against the person(s) responsible for this crime.  The caller may remain anonymous.  The call is not recorded.  Call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).

Mourning Tuesday Morning Thousand Oaks

Was surprised, well, not THAT surprised, when I came across this sign at what used to be Tuesday Morning at the Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks. The store closed on June 30th.

Sure looks a lot brighter in there without the shelves up the ceiling!

If you're a Tuesday Morning fan, there other other stores in Camarillo, Ventura, Woodland Hills and Chatsworth.

There are Eight Subway Stores in Camarillo; Why Not Make It Nine?

Originally posted in May...updated 7/7/12: I've discovered that the Subway on Daily Drive about a mile east of this new location has been closed. So it would appear that the number of Subway stores in Camarillo will remain at eight. Yes, news that makes you snooze...here on CVG.

At 389 Carmen Drive, Camarillo (in the Carmen Plaza...or perhaps better known at the Big Lots/Trader Joe's Plaza) there's a large "Subway Opening Soon" sign up. This spot was previously occupied by Polar Bears Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt and Yogreens. This would make 9 Subways in Camarillo. Previously a Quizno's was located in the adjacent space that is now occupied by GNC. Musical stores?

And next door I see a Sports Clips is coming, which will be the 2nd Sports Clips in Ventura County (the other one is in Newbury Park, on Wendy Drive near the Fresh & Easy).

Yamato Camarillo is Closed-Doh!

This past week, Yamato Restaurant at 1901 East Daily Drive in Camarillo closed its doors.

There is a sign on the front door thanking us for our patronage and directing customers to its Encino location. This was quite a large restaurant, kind of dark and slightly dreary, yet a friendly feel with cheerful wait staff and having one of the largest sushi conveyor belts I've ever seen...larger than the one at Cho Cho San's in Thousand Oaks.

Trivia time: What restaurant occupied this space prior to Yamato? I believe that would be Tony Roma's.

City of Agoura Hills Forms New Community Services Coalition

Applications to Serve on New Coalition Addressing Society Issues Available July 16

Taking a leadership role in addressing current social issues affecting residents, the city of Agoura Hills announced it is forming a Community Services Coalition (CSC). The coalition will provide proactive measures to bring people and resources together within the community to respond effectively to social concerns.

“Times are much different now than they were 20 years ago,” said Agoura Hills Mayor John Edelston, who made the community services initiative part of his 2012 mayoral goals. “We want to identify the relevant issues affecting residents and address their needs—our goal in serving the community is to maximize the quality of life for our residents.”

The new coalition will look at the community from all demographics to create solutions for today’s social challenges, such as coping issues facing teens and adequa
