A New Häagen-Dazs® Scoop Shop Appears to Be Opening Soon in Thousand Oaks

Update 11/20/15: Well Betsy M filled us in that the Haagen-Dazs Westlake Village is now closed. That didn't last long! This was confirmed by the fact that this location has vaporized from the Haagen-Dazs website at www.haagendazs.us and the phone is no longer in service.

Update 6/9/14: The new Haagen-Dazs at North Ranch Plaza, 3825 E. Thousand Oaks Boulevard, Westlake Village opened its doors about nine days ago. They are open 10am to 10pm. Call 805.379.9840 for more information.

Let's take a closer look at that sign in the window.

I'm going out on a limb here, but it would appear that a Häagen-Dazs® shop will be opening here in Spring 2014. Assuming these signs are not a cruel prank, this will be the 2nd Häagen-Dazs® shop in the Conejo Valley, joining the Häagen-Dazs® Scoop Shop at The Oaks Mall. Visit www.haagendazs.com for more information.

As we are big fans of frozen treats here at CVG, we do our best to keep track of frozen yogurt, gelato, ice cream and other frozen treats in and around Ventura County.

The Häagen-Dazs® brand was originated by Reuben Mattus in New York in the early 1920s, starting out with only three flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and coffee. By 1973, Häagen-Dazs® was available throughout the U.S. and the first "Scoop Shop" opened in 1976. In 1983 the brand was sold to The Pillsbury Company. General Mills bought Pillsbury in 2001. But in the U.S. and Canada, the Häagen-Dazs® brand is licensed to Nestlé and its products are produced by Nestle subsidiary Dreyer's. Too much information? OK, I'll stop there :)

Sprinkles Ice Cream and Cookies Coming to The Promenade at Westlake

Sprinkles Cupcakes Westlake Villageannounced on its Facebook page that the reason its current store at The Promenade at Westlake is closed is that it is re-opening this Friday, December 5th, at a larger location a few doors down (at the former home of Menchies Frozen Yogurt, which closed several months ago). Ben and Jerry's Coming to The Collection at RiverPark in Oxnard

On April 2nd, The Collection at Riverpark announced that a Ben and Jerry's will be opening a location sometime soon! Sweet news, both figuratively and literally!

For updates, visit www.thecollectionrp.com.

This will be the third Ventura County Ben and Jerry's location; there are two other locations in Ventura. And old timers might remember there was a Ben and Jerry's at The Lakes at Thousand Oaks for awhile back in the day.

For a list of over 80 Ventura County area ice cream, frozen yogurt, gelato and other sweet treat places, check out this compilation here on Conejo Valley Guide.

Shave It Looks To Be Opening a New Location in Camarillo

Given the photos below, it would appear that a Shave It frozen treat location will be located at 455 Carmen Drive, Camarillo, in what used to be Cucina Isabella. I contacted Shave It Thousand Oaks and they did not have any specifics at this point...probably because Shave It franchises other locations.

The original Shave It opened in 2006 and has been a personal favorite for me and my family. I love the Hawaiian style shave ice and enjoy it with ice cream on the inside and the "sourade" powder on the outside. Yes, I risk becoming diabetic due to you, Shave It, but it's worth it! :) Stay tuned. It's good that a 24 Hour Fitness is located next to the new Camarillo Shave It, isn't it...?

And of course...for over 80 places around Ventura County specializing in satisfying our frozen sugar teeth cravings with frozen yogurt, ice cream and other ice cold treats, check out this list.

There's a "Sign" That A Baskin-Robbins Will Be Opening in Thousand Oaks

Update 11/9/12: This newest Conejo Valley Baskins Robbins opened about a week and a half ago! 1769 E. Avenida de los Arboles, Thousand Oaks (805.409.7431)

Posted 8/17/12: There are Baskin-Robbins 31 Flavors in Westlake Village, Newbury Park, Agoura, Simi Valley, Moorpark and other Ventura County locations but at this moment in time there is no Baskin-Robbins within Thousand Oaks. By the looks of the sign at the Oakbrook Plaza on Avenida De Los Arboles in Thousand Oaks, it appears another ice cream shop will be gracing our presence. It is perhaps strategically located next door to Cardio Barre to provide additional incentive for a good workout.

No details or word on open date currently available. Check baskinrobbins.com and let us know so we can add yet another ice creamery to this list of over 80 such places around Ventura County.

Thrifty Ice Cream Brings Me Memories of My Childhood

Update July 2013: No more Thrifty Ice Cream at the Las Posas Car Wash as they have gone upscale and now have gelato! lasposascarwash.com/convenience-store

I recently stopped by the Las Posas Car Wash, 100 South Las Posas Road, and noticed something new...Thrifty Ice Cream!

The last time I was there I believe they were serving up Haagen Dazs. Thrifty, which is also available at most Rite Aid Stores (and there are currently 16 of them in Ventura County and adjacent cities), is a local brand that goes back over 70 years. It was first produced in Hollywood in 1940 and since 1976 has been manufactured in El Monte. Mmmm...always loved Thrifty Ice Cream at Thrifty Drug Stores.

A single scoop at the car wash is $1.69, which is reasonable enough...though I seem to recall a scoop costing about a quarter or so back in the day. Am I getting old or what!
