Exer – More Than Urgent Care Coming to Conejo Gateway Plaza in Newbury Park

Finally, a sign (literally) of something coming to the space previously occupied by Revolution Surf at the Conejo Gateway Plaza in Newbury Park at the corner of N. Wendy Drive and Old Conejo Road! I always thought it would be a great spot for a gym, but Anytime Fitness is in process of fulfilling that vision in the same plaza.

According to its website, Exer - More Than Urgent Care offers treatment ranging from the level of your basic urgent care to just below that of a hospital ER. "Small things like scrapes and bruises can be treated at home, and life-threatening conditions like heart attacks need to be taken care of at a hospital ER. For everything in between there is Exer – More Than Urgent Care. As long as your condition or illness is non life-threatening, we can help you get the care you need quickly and conveniently but without the cost of a hospital ER. Our centers are equipped with digital x-ray, a diagnostic laboratory, splinting & laceration rooms, IV capabilities and more. We also work closely with the best local imaging centers for MRI and CAT scan imaging when you need it."

Sounds like a worthy addition to the local community! This will be only the 3rd Exer location, following Beverly Hills and Calabasas. I like the sounds of this!

Its Calabasas location at 26777 Agoura Rd, Suite 4 is open 9am to 9pm, 7 days a week.

No word on when the Newbury Park location will open, but I'm sure their website at www.exerurgentcare.com will keep you posted.

Planned Closures of 101 Freeway at Lindero Canyon Road October 28 to November 8

Reconstruction of the Lindero Canyon Road/101 freeway overpass will force several nighttime and early morning closures of the 101 freeway in both directions. These closures will begin at 11:00 pm on Monday, October 28 and last until 5:00 am the following morning.

Closures will occur Monday through Friday for a two-week period. The final closure will take place Thursday, November 7 at 11:00 pm through Friday, November 8 at 5:00 am.

Motorists will be detoured off the freeway at Lindero Canyon Road in each direction. Northbound motorists will be routed to Thousand Oaks Boulevard and will return to the 101 freeway at Westlake Boulevard. Southbound motorists will be routed to the Reyes Adobe on-ramp via Agoura Road. In addition, both the northbound and southbound on-ramp loops to the 101 freeway will be closed during these late evening and early morning construction periods (11:00 pm to 5 am). However, one lane of traffic on Lindero Canyon Road in each direction over the bridge will remain open.

On the first two successive nights and early mornings of the closure starting on October 28, construction crews will be using jackhammers to demolish portions of the overpass as part of the reconstruction project beginning around 11:30 pm. to 5:00 am. Unfortunately, noise generated by this construction activity may be heard in residential areas adjacent to the work.

While the City is mindful of this temporary inconvenience, unfortunately the schedule of the work is dictated by Caltrans and the need to undertake this phase of the construction work in the late evening and early morning hours to coincide with the temporary closure of the freeway. Nonetheless, the City wishes to thank the community and effected residents in advance for their patience and understanding associated with this aspect of the project.

To sign up for email and text message updates on the Lindero Canyon/101 freeway overpass reconstruction project, please visit www.wlv.org and click on the blue project update icon on the left side of the homepage.

When this project is completed, the Lindero Canyon Road/101 bridge will have an additional lane in each direction of traffic, aesthetic improvements, an 11 foot wide lit pedestrian walkway on the east side and a 300 foot long sculpture on both sides of the bridge that will feaure iconic scenes of the City of Westlake Village by artist Joe Werthheimer.

City of Agoura Hills Freeway Sign With Typo on Eastbound 101 Source For Comic Relief

AgouraHillsSign1.jpg

According to the County of Los Angeles Public Library website: The name Agoura Hills originated in 1928 when the last name of well known local French shepherd Pierre Agoure, was selected as the name of the city in order to establish a permanent post office in the community. However, the "e" became an "a" for unknown reasons, either due to an error or perhaps for ease of spelling. We may never know.

History repeats itself. A few weeks ago, Bonnie Q posted a photo of the above sign on the CVG Facebook page and earlier this week I had to see it for myself earlier this week. While it is not exactly something that a spellchecker would catch, how Caltrans let this typo make it to the 101 freeway is a bit puzzling. This sign can be seen on the 101 eastbound between Lindero Canyon and Reyes Adobe Road.

UPDATE: The sign has been replaced and is now correct!

CLU to Present Shakespeare's "As You Like It" November 7th through 17th

CLU to present Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It

Victorian setting highlights similarities to today

California Lutheran University will present Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” Nov. 7 through 17 on the Thousand Oaks campus.

Performances of the Mainstage Production are slated for 8 p.m. Nov. 7, 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16, and at 2 p.m. Nov. 17 in the Black Box Studio Theatre. The production is part of CLU’s All About the Arts Week.

Under the direction of veteran actor and director Brett Elliott, CLU’s “As You Like It” sets Shakespeare’s famous comedy in the early Gilded Age America – an era that has many contemporary parallels.

Similar to today, Victorians witnessed an expanding chasm between the ultra-wealthy robber barons and the struggling middle and lower classes, with all the social and political tensions that follow. They were becoming increasingly aware of the environmental havoc that industrialization was inflicting on the natural world. And they often found themselves bewildered at the breakneck pace with which technology was reshaping their society and world.

It was a world, like that today, in which traditional values and roles were reexamined and challenged. “As You Like It” is one of Shakespeare’s famous cross-dressing comedies, in which female characters don male disguises in order to survive and thrive in a man’s world. CLU’s production takes the gender-bending one step further, casting women in several roles traditionally played by men. In particular, the role of the melancholy Jaques will be presented as an androgynous, world-weary figure reminiscent of the provocative female French novelist George Sand. Natasha Buran, a theatre arts major from Thousand Oaks, will play Jaques.

“As You Like It” also features one of Shakespeare’s premier roles for women. The largest of any of his female roles, Rosalind will be played by Kaitlin Ruby, a theatre arts and communication major from Scottsdale, Ariz., making her CLU debut.

Other major roles will be played by Matthew Case, a criminal justice major from Thousand Oaks, as Orlando; Kevlyn Holmes, a psychology major from Milwaukee, as Celia; and Kevin Repich, a theatre arts and communication major from Simi Valley, as Touchstone.

Elliott is associate artistic director for the Kingsmen Shakespeare Company and was a member of its inaugural acting company in 1997.

Black Box Studio Theatre is located in the Theatre Arts Building on the north side of Memorial Parkway near Pioneer Avenue.

Admission is $10. For information, call the theatre arts department at 805-493-3415.

The Alamo Agoura Hills Announced it Closed for Business on September 24th

Conejo Valley Guide Facebook Follower Lauren R. let us know that the Agoura Hills location of The Alamo Bar & Grill is closed. This was confirmed on The Alamo's Facebook page with the following post on September 24th. But the good news is that the Newbury Park location is still in business and has been since 1976.

To All the Agoura Hills Alamo Guests,

A sincere thank you to all the patrons who passed thru our doors. We are sad to announce The Alamo Agoura Hills is closed for business. It was a true pleasure to be of service. We will miss all our guests. The schools and charities we supported will be missed and we hope you can find other local businesses to support you as well as you have supported the Alamo.
